Spirit of Sydney 60ft BOC Global Challenge Skipper: Uruguay- Buenos Aires – Falkland Islands – South Georgia charter trip – Falkland Islands – Ushuaia
2300 NM Ushuaia (Tierra del Fuego, Argentina) – Falklands – Punta del Este (Uruguai) – Itajai (Brasil) Spectacular Icebird – custom aluminium Van de Stadt 61 – being delivered for a yerd period after the Anarctic season. We had to make sure the boat will safely arrive in the refit base in Itajai. Stopover in Falklads was a good moment to attend issues undiscovered earlier. Despite technical delays, we made it all safe and sound to the destination and got to work to get the boat ready for the next season.
4000 NM Patagonia (Punta Arenas) – Puerto Mont – Costa Rica Spectacular passage on an incredible 130 feet sailng ketch Jagare. This boat is an 80-ties alumnium world cruiser. I was hired as a delivery crew for this passage. We spent a month for this trip. Sailing from the very bottom to the very top on South America along the Pacific coast. The only stop was in chilean Puerto Mont, later just pure sailing even with the huge spinnaker.
800 NM Barbate – Al Yadida (Marocco), La Graciosa (Canaries) – Tenerife Sailing down with friends on this spcial racing prototype boat. Satisfaction, before caleed Sanction and Racy Lady, was constructed with an idea of taking part in Whitbread Around The World regatta. The boat wasn’t finished on time and never took part in the race. She raced a little here and there but never made it to become famous. It’s a sweet boat to sail. Very responsive and dynamic. It’s not a modern open-stern downwind surfer but behaved very well.
2300 NM Gran Canaria – Madeira – Cádiz – Mallorca – Sardinia – Sicily – Lepares – Croatia Fantastic delivery trip with guests crewing on several stages. The trip was large, and even if with guests it was pre-planned to be fast. It took exactly one month to cover the 2870 nautical miles that lie between the following locations: 2300 NM Gran Canaria – Madeira – Cádiz – Mallorca – Sardinia – Sicily – Lepares – Croatia
900 NM: Tenerife – Madeira – Barbate This was a memorable trip. While motoring slowly into the Straits if Gibraltar the boat was attacked by the infamous family of orcas. Despite advise from the local authorities to switch everything off and wait, the creatures stayed around the boat and kept hitting the rudder. We received a damage to structural holding of the rudder stork and got a little water intake. The boat wouldn’t steer so there was no choice than ask for rescue. Now I have leanred the unoficial but effective way of scaring them away. The best tactic seems […]
I was very happy to sail on Y7 ‘Volante’ beautiful carbon-fibre luxury yacht. This time I was the captain! I have replaced my colleague for a weekly trip in the French Riviera. It’s a great experience that left me motivated to continue in the super yacht industry. I have sailed on the boat several times already, but not as the captain. The owner was very satisfied and made sure I know that he will be interested to sail with me again in the future. Y-7 from Y-YACHTS by Michael Schmidt Yachtbau is a brand new sailing yacht made for connoisseurs […]
It was my second occasion to assist in a long-distance delivery on “Volante” Y7 Y-YACHTS by Michael Schmidt Yachtbau. Lightweight carbon-fiber hull equipped with Code Zero and a huge mainsail, allows to sail already in very light winds. Feels great to smoothly move forward at 8 knots, when the others have to still use engines to move forward. This modern sailing yacht is literally packed with the latest technology and smart solutions. It’s a real toy and so much fun, but requires from the skipper not only feeling for sailing but also a technical orientation. Once you get it, it […]
Directly from the Carnival in La Palma I was flown to Ushuaia to assist Rusarc Expedition in delivery of their Challenge 67 from Ushuaia (Patagonia) to Greenland. After the the first week on the sea we received information via Iridium about the international quarantine spreading rapidly due to a mysterious disease from China. My imagination played tricks on me and I barely slept before my next watch. Was it the apocalypse? How are we going to survive? Should we stay offshore for as long as we can? I fell asleep eventually… We were not allowed to enter Uruguay, but only […]
Beautiful trip with a good friend and owner of Tartaruga Sail & Dive charters, together with couple other good companions. We were quite lucky to be able to visit three distinct harbours of Marocco in quite mild conditions. Tangert located in the SW Straits of Gibraltar, which allowed us a taxi trip to famous historical town of Chefchaouen. Bright and beautiful town famous not only for craft workshops of leatherworkers and other craftsmen, but also architecture, history and production one of the mo most famous Marcocco’s illegal export product… Al Yadida with it’s incredibly authentic fishing harbour and old town. […]
Yacht Delivery Sailing on Y-Yachts Y7 for the first time! What a Christmas time! My dear friends working as the fixed crew on the boat have offered me to assist them on this important delivery. I have learned the ropes, or even better say: I have learned the buttons! SY Volante is a high-tech, brand new 70 feet carbon fiber Y7 from Y-YACHTS build by Michael Schmidt Yachtbau. The latest technology, even though designed to make our life easier, sometimes would give us a headache instead. It’s another way, the next level of skippering. This future of sailing requires very […]
700 NM. Adrian Hoteles is a boat sailed by Macaronersia crew from Canary Islands. The yacht took part in ROLEX Middle Sea Race and was to be delivered to Premia De Mar near Barcelona in the stormy times of November 2019. After the regatta it appeared that other crew took out mainsail and left towards Sicily. We managed to arrange a passover in Trapani and continue stopping over Sardinia and Menorca to catch the weather window. Being in a very good crew of three experienced sailors we made it fast and safe to the destination. Sydney 43 is a performance […]

CNB Bordeaux 60 / Monohull / 18,38m Madeira (Funchal) – Benalmadena (South Spain) – Formatera (Balearics) – Palma de Mallorca (Balearics) 1200 nm, March 2018
Bavaria 49 / Monohull / 14.75 m Tenerife – Madeira – Mallorca, 1500 nm, April 2017 We have recorded 40 kn of wind during this trip, wind called Levante – strong easterly blowing along all western part of Mediterranean to squeeze through the Straits of Gibraltar, making it impossible to pass. On another occasion it happened to me to wait few days for the wind to calm down untill the passage is possible. Often before the westerly Poniente arrives a day of calm and good weather follows just to start blowing from the other direction. One of the 40ties that […]
Beneteau Cyclades 43.3 / 2007 / Monohull / 13.25 m / 200 nm Wonderful week of relaxed sailing with a couple in their 60ties, cruising between South of Tenerife and La Gomera. A windy week. In certain zones quite strong winds even up to 35 kn provided little controlled thrill and added greatly to the variety of experiences of the charter clients. Thank you for the very nice week :)
Oceanis 43 / Monohull / 13.10 m El Hierro to Tenerife, 80 nm, single-handed, February 2017 Sailing alone has something indescribable which I can only attempt to bring up… Strong wind and big choppy waves trying to disturb your inner peace and concentration. The fear often seems to be a product of our ego. The same, still raw, dose of adrenaline should result in super-human state of being rather than panic, for our own safety. Alone out there, is where you can see how pointless is to get lost in thoughts or paranoia. I also notice that the fear itself […]
Beneteau Cyclades 43.3 2007 / Monohull / 13.25 m Palmeira, Island of Sal, Cabo Verde – La Palma – Tenerife 1000 nm, December 2016 The long period of strong 25-45 kn of wind and tight schedule left just two of us with no other choice than a rough but very fast passage up north. All the crossing was basically one week-lasting tack, directly to La Palma. After a short overnight rest we sailed to Tenerife along it’s northern coast. The boat had very worn off batteries so we decided to give up on constante sound of engine and kept the […]
Beneteau Océanis 43 2008 / Monohull / 13.10 m Palma de Mallorca – Barbate – Tenerife 1200 nm, October 2016
Crewing job as a fixed technical and regatta crew on a famous and very antique 15 meter class classic racing yacht Hispania 1909. One of the four boats racing in this extraordinarily antique regatta class. 900 nm as a crew between September and October 2016 covering: – The Schooner Cup in San Remo, Italy – Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez the very famous regatta week in the south of France – Few weeks of work on preparations and boat maintenance inbetween regattas – Delivery crew from Mallorca to San Remo – Italy, then Saint-Tropez and back to Palma de Mallorca A nice […]
Right after a lovely week of family charter I hopped on board of wooden classic Kahurangi to support it during the regatta Regata Illes Balears Classics 2016. This beautiful boat was built in 1952 in New Zealand. This impressive ocean racer/cruiser is a lost legend from the past, by many considered lost, she is nowadays in great shape and well maintained and well… available for charters. Kahurangi belongs to a friend, also a sailor, this way I also got involved in some technical issues and a little after regatta refit back to cruising mode, as well as going out for […]
